Hi, I’m 25 years old and I’m getting married next summer. Currently, my Fi and I are planning our wedding and we are renting a home from a relative at a very affordable cost. I currently work as a teaching assistant in a public school and my Fi works full-time. He makes twice my income. I make very little money, especially since I hold a bachelor’s degree.

I’ve decided to go back to school to earn my master’s degree and my certification in elementary education. I’m already well aware that I will never have the luxury of being a SAHM. We live in Connecticut and our housing market and our cost of living is very expensive. We would love to be homeowners and we would need two incomes to make that possible in this area.

I could easily go about getting a job in a different field using my degree. But, I have always wanted to be a teacher and I love working with kids. In addition, teaching would allow me to be at home with my family during the summer time and in the afternoons.

But, my master’s degree is a two and half year program and I will start this fall (when I’m 26). I will be about 28/29 when I’m finished. My rational side is telling me to complete school before having a family and get pregnant. But, my biological clock is telling me I want to be a mother sooner and become pregnant after our wedding next year when I’m 27..

I’m torn! My fiance works nights; therefore, it would be impossible to take night courses. Has anyone else been in a position? What did you do?

She’s in a lot of debt and her wages just about covers her mortgage, bills debt etc, so for things like food, clothes, school dinners etc she has to do overtime. She got a letter this morning sayin she’s going to be put in the 40% bracket. Her payslip for January showed she earned just over £36,000. The bracket for 40% is £37,401- £150,000 so after this month she must only just be over this. Apart from this being appauling because theres over £112,000 difference but yet every1 gets 40% tax what can she do?

Theres going to be no point her doing loads of overtime this year as that makes her in that bracket just by a couple of grand and will jump her tax rate by double (its 20% for under 37,401). So could she inform them that this is because of overtime which she won’t be doing as much this year to get it reduced to 20% again. She phsyically can’t afford to pay 40%, stop doing overtime and then wait for a tax rebate next year, she’s really worried. Does anyone have any advice please???
I know they have to draw the line somewhere but why should someone earning £38000, even £45000 get taxed the same as someone earning over £150,000? Theres £112,000 difference in their wages!!!

Before reading, please do not judge me and please only answer if you’re going to give honest answers! I am NOT making this up, so bare with me.

I am 27, just finished my GED and was debating whether to go to college. I live at home with the folks, and have my very own bedroom- with home phone! Anyways…My family sat me down some time ago and said they were tired of me living at home wasting my life. I was a bit offended, but listened.

My family told me they saved up $60,000 for me to go to college, and that I should try to apply to some community schools first. I agreed, and was excited to already declare my major in front of them- business, with a concentration in finance.

I was accepted into a college, and my parents then deposited the funds into my bank account. They wanted me to be responsible for my own management, since it was my major after all.

But right before the first semester started, my best friend Besty took me on a trip to a casino (we live in Wisconsin). I sat down at a slot machine and put in $20. As I played the machine, I won! I won $100. I couldn’t believe it. I figured if it was this easy to play slots, I could earn thousands of dollars at the casino and save up to pay for an apartment. As the evening dwindled on, I sadly was losing…I lost over $2,000. Betsy understood, and told me we still had one more day. But I was out of money. Then it dawned on me- I still had the $60,000 my parents had put in my other account. And I happened to have the debit card on me. So I withdrew a quick $5,000 from the account and played on. I lost all of it. As I made my way back to the ATM, Betsy told me to stop, and that I was making a huge mistake. I told her to mind her damn business- it was MY life and I knew what I was doing.

I ended up losing $62,000 in one night on slot machines. It took me about six hours, with a dinner break inbetween at their tasty buffet. I was in shocked horror as Betsy and me returned home. I had no money left for school. I called my parents to explain what happened, and to demand $65,000- $60,000 for school, and $5,000 for a trip back to the Casino to try to make up Apartment Saving Money, but they flat-out refused! They told me I was cut off, and that I was very stupid for gambling the money. I was so mad at them calling me stupid, and for denying me the money.

Was I wrong to do this? I know gambling is addicting, but I had a system! I’m unique- I’m not like these other people who throw all their loot away. I was on a winning streak until the end. And My parents are awful to cut me off and tell me they’re done dealing with me. Thoughts?

Interesting story from a few years ago, A guy I grew up with and stayed somewhat in touch with through college turned out to be a crossdresser. I found this out when I heard he was divorced.

Being a life long friend he told me the whole story about why his wife divorced him. I’ve known him to be a decent person, he has a good job and earns serious money and he gave his wife a really nice home to live in and a comfortable life. The fact that he crossdressed was the main issue in the marriage. Things got so bad during the divorce that he had to personally tell his boss about the crossdressing because he feared his wife would call his boss. She must have threatened him with that, for him to tell his boss.

I felt bad for the guy and whatever his person tastes (being a crossdresser) didn’t make me hate him or think any less of him because I’ve known the guy for many years.

It occurred to me that as a guy I never felt I could force any of my girlfriends to do anything. I never even would pressure them to look a certain way or act a certain way. I never felt I had the right to do stuff like that because of the culture I was raised in.

Like once one of my ex’s cut her hair short I didn’t care for it, but I never said anything. Another of my ex’s got into the habit of constantly wearing sweats all the time. I wasn’t very happy with the lazy bum look, but who would I be to say anything without hurting her feelings. My last ex gf like to take the lead and make decisions & changing plans without consulting me, lol. If it made her feel good to be in so-call (charge) I just went with the flow. I just let her know on major issues she would hear from me. The truth is I really didn’t give a sh*t about many of the things she made decisions on to begin with. It made her happy, so whatever.

I hear all this stuff about women not wanting to be judged whether they’re wearing hot pants or sweat pants. If they’re career women and don’t want children or stay at home mothers. It seems women demand the freedom to look, act and be whatever and however they want.

So was this the stupidest reason for this guys wife to divorce him?
